A very detailed operational account of the highly successful German amphibious landings in October of 1917 on the Russian islands of Osel and Dago, off what is now Lithuania , an operation that was studied as closely by the USMC as the far more well-known Allied landings at Gallipoli during the interwar period;. along with the largely negative lessons of Gallipoli, these were operations that strongly influenced the formation of American amphibious doctrine. 

Although the author admits to providing little analysis, the careful reader will find not only a detailed look at the planning, preparations, organization, and execution of these operations, the most successful landings of the Great War, but also gain some insight into German thinking about amphibious operations.
