Although entries are relatively short, in this work veteran military historians
Savas
and
Dameron
provide a useful overview of the war and it backgrounf, and often dip into areas usually overlooked in similar works. So in addition to the standard entries on people, ships, places, and battles, we also find material on military institutions and organization, changing command structures, and the roles of the allies of both sides, including French, Spanish, Dutch, and, of course the Hessians and the Indians, in addition to much else besides.
A useful reference for just about anyone with an interest in the Revolutionary War, The New American Revolution Handbook is also an excellent “first book” for a curious younger reader.
