January 1, 2011: An Israeli firm has sold its Micro Falcon UAVs to Peru. Only one system (three UAVs and ground control equipment) has been purchased, apparently for evaluation. The Micro Falcon is a six kg (13 pound), electrically powered aircraft with a one kg (2.2 pound) payload. The Micro-Falcon can stay in the air for two hours per sortie, and can be carried by backpack. The Micro Falcon lands via parachute. The Peruvians want to make sure the Micro Falcon can handle the high altitudes (and thin air) of the mountainous terrain their army often operates in.
