The U.S. Air Force A-10 ("warthogs") ground attack aircraft has been in service for 25 years now. While unpopular with many air force leaders because it is neither a fighter, nor a bomber, the A-10 proved itself so useful during the 1991 Gulf War that earlier plans to give the A-10s to the army had to be scrapped. Unwilling to pay for a replacement aircraft, the air force is instead going to rebuild and upgrade the aircraft. The aircraft will be  refurbished and have new communications equipment installed that enable A-10s to instantly share targeting information..
