Deliveries of new C-17 Globemaster-II jet transports will reach 100 in October. The C-17 got it's first real wartime workout in Afghanistan and proved to be a worthy successor to the C-141 and C-5. Since those two older transports are rapidly wearing out, and Afghanistan demonstrated a shortage of long range transports, there is less resistance to buying more C-17s.--Stephen V Cole
