Europe is budgeting $80 million to develop new wing technology for transport aircraft that could give them 6 percent less drag and save 2 percent of their fuel. Airbus is providing 60 percent of the funding for the "Awiator" (Advanced Wing with Advanced Technology Operations) program, which is to pursue advanced means of designing and building aircraft wings.--Stephen V Cole
