Malaysia has signed a contract to buy 211 infantry fighting vehicles from Turkey for $300 million. The vehicles are built in Turkey by a US-Turkish joint venture known as FNSS. This company sold the Turkish Army 1,698 armored vehicles and expects another larger order soon. FNSS also sold the United Arab Emirates 136 armored vehicles, of which the last 36 are due for delivery in November. The Malaysian vehicles will comprise several variants, including a basic armored personnel carrier, an infantry fighting vehicle with a 25mm chaingun, an ambulance design, and several maintenance and logistics versions.--Stephen V Cole
