The U.S. Army has ordered another 11,000 of it's standard FMTV trucks, to be delivered over the next five years. These are 2.5 and 5 ton (average carrying capacity) trucks that can easily be converted into at least 14 different configurations (and still have 85 percent parts compatibility). This purchase will be two billion dollars. These trucks are the most common found in the army and their weight classes were first established back in World War II. Unlike those early models, the modern "Deuce and a half" (as the 2.5 ton truck is still called) has power steering, automatic transmissions, seat belts and a cab built to comfortable seat three troops. The five ton truck is basically a scaled up version of the 2.5 ton model.
