NBC Weapons: April 13, 2001

There was a low-level alarm reading for nerve gas in one of the storage igloos at Umatilla Chemical Depot in Oregon after the 28 Feb earthquake. The depot stores 200,000 weapons filled with various chemical agents; the igloo in question stored 750-pound bombs filled with Sarin nerve gas. No nerve gas actually escaped from the igloo, and officials were investigating which if any weapons leaked and why. There was no conclusive evidence that the earthquake caused the leaks.--Stephen V Cole
