Intelligence: Italians Make Libya Safe

Archives

October 24, 2009: An Italian firm is supplying Libya with a $442 million Border Security and Control System. In addition to installing new computerized border control systems for legal visitors arriving by air, sea and land, the system will also include some sensors systems, and the ability to easily integrate data from ships, aircraft and troops patrolling the borders looking for illegal entrants.

Libya has land borders of 4,348 kilometers and a coastline of 1,770 kilometers. Population is only 6.3 million and most of the country is desert. Libya is a police state, so the new system will also play a role in keeping the population under control.
