Intelligence: World Cup Recruits Arabs For The U.S. Army

July 6, 2006: The U.S. Army is spending over $20 million on World Cup TV ads to recruit more Arabic linguists. The 260 ads are being run on games watched by viewers in North America. Results so far indicate that it will cost several hundred thousand dollars for each linguist successfully recruited. Even at the price, it's cheaper recruiting those who already know Arabic, than sending non-Arab speakers through years of training.
