A U.S. reserve unit assigned to check military web sites for sensitive or classified information found 1300 American military web sites that did indeed post such data. The Web Risk Assessment Team (or WRAT, as the unit is called) spends one weekend a month checking out Department of Defense sites. and have checked out 800 so far. They found ten sites where details of U.S. war plans (normally top secret stuff) posted. WRAT is also assigned to improve the security of DoD sites, and are using various proven techniques (developed by commercial firms to protect their own secrets) to do it.
