The US Navy is studying alternatives for the new Multi-Mission Aircraft to replace the P-3, EP-3, E-6, and C-130. While the planes must be in service in 2010, the budgets only cover the research portion of the program. The low-risk alternative is to rebuild the P-3 fleet. Another choice is to use either the C130 or Boeing 737 designs. The high-risk option is to select an entirely new airframe.--Stephen V Cole
