October 23, 2006:
Israel insists that Iran has resumed supplying Hizbollah with weapons. Such supplies were interrupted during the war last Summer, when Israel blockaded the coast, and Turkey insisted that Iranian transports using Turkish air space land to see if they were carrying weapons. Those inspections have ceased since the ceasefire in Lebanon last August. The UN is supposed to be preventing seaborne smuggling of weapons to Hizbollah (from Syrian ports to beaches on the Lebanese coast). But the peacekeeper warships, that replaced the Israeli blockade, have not interfered with the arms smuggling. Meanwhile, Israeli photo satellites and air reconnaissance, have spotted a Syrian weapons supply system for Hizbollah, that moves weapons, flown in from Iran, into Lebanon. The UN peacekeepers in Lebanon are not allowed to interfere with Hizbollah's weapons. When pressed, the UN says its peacekeepers have no evidence of weapons being brought in for Hizbollah.
