Ukrainian firm devDroid has developed a RWS (Remote Weapons System) that incorporates an AI (Artificial Intelligence) system that can determine if a soldier is Ukrainian or Russian and enables the operator to fire on the enemy soldier while not accidentally firing on a Ukrainian soldier. The basic system uses daylight video cameras but can also work with thermal (heat detecting) cameras or similar radar systems to make nighttime operations possible. The operators manage the system 100 meters away using a cable or a Starlink terminal can be up to 100 meters from the devDroid equipment.
The operator can cancel a decision to open fire. Using a stabilized machine-gun, targets consisting of individual or small groups of soldiers that are up to 900 meters away can be effectively fired on and hit. Individual enemy soldiers can be detected at up to 500 meters and traced until they are only 300 meters away and a successful kill shot is possible.
The Ukrainian military has tested this AI remotely controlled turret which can identify targets, calculate their location, and track them. The AI system can detect movements and personnel up to a kilometer away. Upon detection, the weapon rises from its camouflaged and protected bunker or trench and relays a signal to the operator for action. Before opening fire, the AI calculates ballistics and assists in aiming the weapon at the target. At this point the operator can have the turret to fire on the enemy.
THP turrets can be used on the ground or mounted on military vehicles like infantry fighting vehicles or trucks. THP turrets cost about $1,400, weigh around 35 kg for standalone use and 110 kg in vehicle-based configuration. Turrets can be armed with various weapons, including 7.62mm tank machine guns, AK-47, AK-74, and Polish Grot machine guns. These turrets are designed to enhance combat capabilities and protect strongholds from enemy attacks as well as surveillance or attack by enemy UAVs.
