The Taliban arrested eleven Afghans, who had entered Afghanistan from Iran carrying Iranian made weapons, as the men tried to enter the city of Herat. The pro-Iranian Afghans were apparently planning to attack Taliban targets. Iran (which is Shia Moslem) and the Taliban (which Sunni Moslem) have a number of religious disputes. In the north and east, Taliban and Northern Alliance artillery fired at each other for extended periods.
