 At least seven mass graves have been found in the north, containing many of the estimated 10,000 Hazara people killed by the Taliban. The Hazara are descended from the Mongol armies that invaded 800 years ago. The memories of the  brutality of that invasion has continued to cause friction between the Hazara and other Afghans.
