The Afghan army reestablished its military school system by reopening the country's oldest military academy outside the capital. The school will begin by training 150 Afghan officers, using Afghan and foreign instructors. 

Spring has returned, along with the threat of a Taliban and al Qaeda offensive. Both groups, after a quiet Winter, have promised major surprises in the Spring. But so far, not much has happened. Many pro-Taliban tribes are in the midst of peace negotiations with the government.
