A 24 year old Afghan woman was shot to death, after receiving death threats for hosting a TV program on pop music. Her two brothers are thought to be involved, making this an "honor killing" as well as an example of the power of Islamic conservatism. "Honor killings" are common in this part of the world, and occur when a women is guilty of real or imagined "dishonors" her family. Her father and brothers are usually involved in the killing, and are rarely punished.

In southern Afghanistan, a roadside bomb hit an American patrol, killing one soldier and wounding two. In 44 months of combat, 144 Americans have been killed in Afghanistan.
