After declaring the Islamist Virtue Party illegal (for antisecular activities), Turkeys constitutional court only expelled two of the parties 102 deputies from the Turkish parliament. One former Virtue Party leader, Abdullah Gul, announced that he would be forming a new party. Turkish media sources predicted two or three Islamist parties would emerge, at least one of them far more radical than the Virtue Party.
