China reports that 14 imprisoned Falungong members committed suicide. Family members who saw the bodies say it looked like the cause of death was torture. Chinese police still make frequent use of torture, but Falungong members have used suicide to protest government persecution. Indeed, over thousands of years, opposition groups have used suicide to protest government persecution. China has driven Falungong deeper underground, but apparently is unable to crush it completely. One reason for this is the Falungong use of the internet to stay in touch with each other.
