The UN has condemned the two month FARC blockade of the southwestern region on the Ecuador border. The 350,000 residents of the area have not been able to get shipments of food, fuel or medicine. The government has flown some supplies in, but airlift capacity is limited and many of the locals are spread over the countryside, reachable only by rebel controlled roads. Some 6,000 soldiers are deployed in the area, but the rebels are resisting.
