UN diplomats met with FARC rebels and arranged a lifting of the roadblocks in the southeast. The FARC are fighting right wing AUC militia in the area, and also trying to keep government troops away. This area, Putumayo department, produces half the nations coca crop (the raw material for cocaine.) But the government quickly moved in with herbicide equipment. Meanwhile, on the Pacific coast, in Choco department, FARC has set up roadblocks, immobilizing travel in the area.
