In the northeast, eleven (out of thirty) different rebel groups have declared a ban on Indian movies. These films are extremely popular throughout South Asia. Most are musicals and have romantic and heroic themes. Hundreds are made each year and they are cheaper to attend than American films. But the tribal rebels see the films as "Hindu propaganda", and cause tribal children to learn, or improve their skill at, spoken Hindi. The campaign against Hindi films will probably result in attacks on indoor and outdoor movie theaters. 

In Kashmir, there was a spike in violence, with 14 killed in rebel related violence. Violence has been increasing in the past week, with nearly ten killed per day.

Three bombs went off in the Pakistani city of Quetta, wounding seven. The bombs were directed at police and government targets. The local Baluchi tribes have been protesting army incursions into tribal areas.
