Several religious and political groups say they are preparing for war on both sides of the struggle to get president Wahid to resign. Although Wahid is a prominent and popular Moslem cleric,  many Moslems oppose him. This makes it difficult for Wahid to crack down on militant Moslem groups that are fighting Christians. Many Moslems see the separation of Christian East Timor from Indonesia as a Christian plot to dismember Indonesia. The Moluccas and Irian Jaya are also largely Christian and the scene of much fighting and separatist activity. Wahid is the head of the Moslem Nahdlatul Ulama, which has over 30 million members.
