Thoughts of a warming of relations with Iranian moderates ended with the inclusion of Iran in the Axis of Evil. Why did President Bush abandon the effort to build new ties? Because it had become clear that the Moderates in Iran have no power and the radicals are still in charge. Not only did Iran send a shipload of weapons to the Palestinians, but it has resumed support for the Soldiers of Mohammad, an extremist group based in Afghanistan with about 1,300 armed troops.--Stephen V Cole
