The first of nine South Korean designed and built warships was launched. The 4,000 ton KDX-II destroyer, named the Chungmugong Yi Sun-Shin, is 495 feet long. After six of the 4,000 ton ships are built, the seventh will be a scaled up, 7,000 ton ship that can carry the Aegis radar system. This is expected to happen in 2008.
