September 24; It is feared that a bomb destroyed an oil pipeline in southeast Nigeria. Many in the local population are in rebellion against the long term denial of oil money going to the area where the oil is pumped. The government fears that this might grow to a separatist rebellion.

September 20; Hundreds of demonstrators have closed a liquid gas plant. The people demand more oil and gas money for their villages.

September 14; Four days of clashes between rambunctious youths and police in the southeast left nineteen dead. In early 1999, twenty youths had been killed by the police, and relations with the police were tense. The soldiers apparently join in with the police in going after local youths.
