The president held an emergency meeting with the provincial governors over the issue of provinces switching from civil to Sharia (Moslem religious) law. The president then announced that there was a consensus that provinces should not switch to Sharia law. Kano state has agreed to withdraw it's decision to switch to Sharia. Meanwhile, the flow of northerners fleeing violence in the southeast has abated.
