In the southern state of Anambra, there was apparently a coup attempt by the deputy governor and his allies in the state legislature. A fake letter of resignation was sent to the legislature and the members were asked to accept it and confirm the deputy governor becoming the new governor. But the governors allies in the legislature got the police to provide protection for the governor as he denied signing a letter of resignation. However, the situation is still murky, as it is alleged that newly elected (last April) governor signed an undated resignation letter for his main backer, a wealthy local businessman. This was to insure that the governor would properly show his appreciation by sending a lot of government business to his backer. This kind of corruption fuels growing discontent in the country.
