MILF rebels attacked a Manobo tribal village in the south, killing five and then seizing nine more to use as human shields when the army showed up. The MILF has been trying to drive the tribe out of territory the MILF wants to use. Elsewhere in the south, unidentified attackers killed five civilians. Meanwhile, on Jolo, the army has called for reinforcements. In the past two days, three rebels were killed and a soldier wounded in continued clashes. The Abu Sayyaf are digging in and defending themselves more vigorously.
