While bin Laden may have some contacts with Abu Sayyaf, all other Islamic rebel groups in the Philippines consider the Abu Sayyaf to be a bunch of bandits who were thrown out of the MILF because of criminal activity. Nothing Abu Sayyaf has done since contradicts this assessment.
