Philippines: Abu Sayyaf Comes Out to Fight

November 29, 2005: The fighting on Jolo over the last three weeks has seen three Abu Sayyaf camps found in the jungle, and destroyed. About two dozen rebels have been killed, as well as six soldiers. There are about 2,000 soldiers going after about 150 rebels.

November 26, 2005: On Jolo, OV-10 bombers, S-211 armed jet trainers and MG-520 helicopter gunships attacked an Abu Sayyaf bunker complex, killing at least fifteen rebels. The rebel camp was then attacked with ground troops, and most of the rebels fled.

November 24, 2005: Soldiers encountered about 50 NPA rebels, 90 kilometers southeast of the capital. At least one rebel was killed as the soldiers scattered them.

November 23, 2005: NPA rebels attacked government buildings in Tagum City, as part of their program to destabilize the government they perceive as weak and vulnerable.
