Myanmar (Burma) has tripled the intake of cadets at its military academy to 1,500 per year. While the Army has doubled in size since 1988, and many units are under strength, analysts believe that most of the additional cadets will eventually serve as military officers in civilian jobs. Myanmar's college system has been shut down for a decade due to political unrest and civilian industry has a serious shortage of college-educated technicians and junior managers.--Stephen V Cole
