Three Chechens hijacked a Russian airliner in Turkey, and had it flown to Saudi Arabia. The hijackers demanded that Russia get its troops out of Chechnya, and that the aircraft be refueled for a flight to Afghanistan. In Chechnya, the army launched an offensive in the southeastern part of the province that left 25 rebels dead.
