The FSB (equivalent of the FBI/CIA) reported that last year some 500 people were prosecuted for Islamic terrorism, and about 40 were prosecuted. Islamic terrorist organizations are spreading quietly throughout Moslem communities in Russia, as the Islamic terrorists try to recruit as many people as they can. Pakistan and, to a lesser extent, Afghanistan are considered the main sources of training for Islamic terrorists, sending many trained operatives to join the rebellion in Chechnya. The FSB also accuses Europe and the United States of tolerating Chechen terrorists in their territory, where the Chechens hide behind assertions that they are political refugees.
