The former US presidential special representative to the Great Lakes region urged the US Congress to support the African Union (AU) peacekeeping mission. The translation from diplo-speak means "send money", with the US bankrolling some part of the peacekeeping bill while the South African military reaps the operational rewards of US financial support. The South African government is dominated by the unrepentantly-Marxist African National Congress party and over the last two years has criticized the Bush administration at every turn, so they should be expected to try and hijack any credit for stabilizing the situation. Of course, if Burundi goes up in flames, it will somehow be America's fault. - Adam Geibel
