  In Jaffna, troops launched a day long offensive and captured key sections of the A-9 and B-70 roads, thus linking towns captured earlier. The army lost 12 troops, the rebels, about 31. In all, the army recaptured some 11 square kilometers of territory from the rebels. 

December 14, 2000;  A rebel bomb was set off in an eastern town, killing three policemen and two civilians.
