Fighting flared up in the north once more, with two soldiers and six rebels dead. Two soldiers were also wounded. In the north east, Moslems set fire to eight Sinhalese (native Sri Lankan) shops. Moslem politicians told the government that if the Moslem-Buddhist violence was not halted, the Moslem parties would withdraw their support to the government.
