 Rebels accused the government of acquiring chemical weapons from Russia. In fact, the government has bought portable flame throwers (that fires rockets containing napalm like chemicals.) Such weapons are very useful in destroying bunkers. A major source of army casualties are attacks on rebel bunkers. In the northeast, rebels ambushed navy security personnel, leaving three sailors and four rebels dead.
