SPLA leader John Garang accused Umma Party leader Sadiq el-Mahdi of being a "double agent" who has undermined the anti-Khartoum insurgents' efforts. Meanwhile, a pro-Khartoum militia group, the Unified Military Command (UMC) attacked several villages in the Bahr al-Ghazal region. An SPLA spokesman said Antonov transport aircraft (probably AN-12s) dropped bombs on SPLA positions.
