The United States has sent three C-130 transports to African to assist in the movement of African Union peacekeepers to Darfur. However, the government refused to allow American aircraft to land in Darfur with African Union peacekeepers. This is typical of government tactics that first agree to something, then invent so many obstacles that the agreement cannot be carried out. There are 500 African Union troops in Darfur, and that will grow to 3,000 by the end of the year.
