The provisional government released 18 foreigners arrested last month as terror suspects. There are lots of rumors of al Qaeda activity in Somalia, but very little evidence. The constant strife between the clans would appear to make it difficult for al Qaeda to survive. Moreover, travel is difficult and Somalis are always ready to sell out foreigners. Moreover, the Somalis have never been noted for strong religious beliefs. The "Islamic Courts" militia that arose in the last few years is more concerned with law and order than how often you pray.
