- Apparently, only 16 Danish troops were killed in action during the German invasion of April 9, 1940.
- The men of South Carolina's famed Palmetto Regiment served throughout the Mexican War with improvised uniforms; the ship carrying their specially ordered uniforms from New York was lost at sea, and a second shipment was intercepted by guerrillas and ended up helping to clothe Mexican troops.
- During his 1355 chevauchee across the Languedoc in France, the Black Prince's army covered some 675 miles in 68 days, laying waste to some 18,000 square miles, or about four square miles per man.
- On February 14, 2002, Federal District Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson ruled that the CIA could legally continue to maintain the secret status of an invisible ink formula devised for use during World War I.
